A presentation on spotted eagle ray biology and behaviour and current research was given to an audience of around 60 residents and visitors to the island of Saba at Scouts Place Hotel as one of the main events of Sea and Learn.

23rd October: Presentation on Providenciales

23rd October:  Presentation at DECR Environment Centre, Providenciales 7pm to 9pm. Sponsored by Big Blue Unlimited and Marine and Coastal Consulting.

A research and information presentation was given to representatives from the local dive industry, DECR (Department of Environment and Coastal Resources), tourists and local residents to introduce the monitoring program in Providenciales which will be coordinated by Jackie Walker of Big Blue Unlimited. I have an MSc in Tropical Coastal Management from University of Newcastle and a BSc (Hons) in Zoology from University of Glasgow. I currently work in South Caicos as a research intern for the School for Field Studies (SFS). The regularity in sightings of spotted eagle rays here prompted me to investigate more about the species. I was surprised to find very little was known about population movements and there had never been studies of them in this location. This prompted me to found this research monitoring program and to create a website for the sharing of information and data.
